  • compare in-class writing to assignments completed out of class
  • student search path information - list how they found the information
  • change out narrowly-defined topics each semester
  • require a variety of types of sources, including information from class discussions, assigned readings, or interviews with experts
  • student studio groups/threaded discussions of papers
  • checkpoints/due dates for showcasing progress, e.g., thesis, outline, annotated bibliography, rough drafts, posted sources 
  • in-class reflection essays about assignment
  • personal insights about the subject included in paper or project
