Sorry, applications are now closed.

Is there a theme?

There is no theme for the stories, but Human Books are encouraged to share experiences and conversations that may benefit both you and your "readers". If you've ever felt misunderstood or discriminated against and would like to have a chance to talk about perceptions or misconceptions, we invite you to be a book. If you have a story of a life changing experience, we would love to hear that too.

We do ask that people NOT use the Human Library to convert (or attempt to convert) Readers from one belief or opinion to another.

How does it work?

  • You'll be asked to give your book a title. "Bookshelf" topics will be online before the event.  All of the book titles and times available will be listed on whiteboards near the check-in desk. Readers will pick out a title and then library staff will connect them with their book.

  • Human Books have up to 30 minutes talk about your experience and have a conversation about it with 1-4 readers. We encourage you to sign up for 2 or more times. Books and Readers will be seated together conversationally at a table in the library.

  • Readers have the opportunity to "read” as many books as they please. The purpose of the event is to bring people together who may have never talked otherwise. The readers listen to your experience, have a conversation with you, and then go to the next book.

Will it be recorded?

No. We want books and readers to feel as safe and comfortable as possible.
