Human Library

The purpose of the event is to build understanding of other people's lived experiences, and to encourage an inclusive, welcoming environment.

Guidelines

[ unjudge someone ]

The Human Library is a collection of real people with lived experiences to share. Be open-minded and considerate while listening to and talking with your book.  Books and Readers (1-4 people) will be seated together conversationally at a table in the library.

Questions to consider while listening to your book:

  • How can I relate to this story?
  • How can this experience affect me, what can I learn about myself?
  • How can I walk out of here differently today?

Explore your own experiences:

  • When was a time that you experienced bias or discrimination?
  • When was a time that you discriminated against someone else?
  • When was a time that you witnessed discrimination and you did nothing about it?
  • When was a time that you witnessed discrimination and you did something about it?
  • What are the contributing factors to when we do something versus when we do nothing?
