AI

MLA recommends citing generative AI as a tool utilized in your research using the general MLA template. Citing the AI tool as an author is not recommended but researchers should follow the general template while citing information gathered via AI.

Title of Source:

This should provide a description of the work generated by the AI tool, including the prompt if necessary.

Title of Container:

This should be the name of the AI tool used, for example ChatGPT

Version:

This should name the specific version of the AI tool used, for example ChatGPT 2.1 .7

Publisher:

This should be the name of the company that made the AI tool.

Date:

You should provide the date that the content was generated.

Location:

If applicable, this should provide a unique URL for your conversation with the AI tool (possible through extensions like ShareGPT). Otherwise, a general URL for the tool is acceptable.
