LGBTQIA+ Resources

Affinity groups are designed to create safe spaces for members to share and process experiences. As allies, our affinity group also allows participants the opportunity to identify ways in which we can appropriately use our privilege to bring about social change.

Northwest’s LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group serves to foster an inclusive, open campus community, advancing equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex and asexual people. The LGBTQIA ERG consists of LGBTQ+ individuals interested in LGBTQ+ issues for employees (administrators, staff, and faculty) at Northwest Missouri State University.

Dozens of campuses across the U.S. celebrate Lavender Graduation ceremonies, which are held to honor LGBTQIA students as they graduate from college. Students can check the Lavender Graduation college listings to see if their institution participates in this tradition. Lavender Graduation ceremonies are held one week before a college’s general graduation commencement.

Northwest Missouri State University recognizes the need of campus community members to identify themselves by a name different than their legal name. Therefore, it is the policy of Northwest Missouri State University that any student, staff or faculty member may choose to identify, within the university community, with a preferred first name that differs from their legal name.

An LGBTQ+ support and advocacy group. We are open to everyone who wishes to join. We partake in sharing LGBTQ history, explaining allyship, building connections, and hosting events here on campus.
